Car designers

Got to Epcot close to gate opening...for us, anyway...and Steve buzzed off to get FastPasses for Soarin' while the rest of us headed to Test Track to get in line. The line was already up to a 70 minute wait, but we were interested to see how they had redesigned the ride. Now, instead of a safety feature emphasis, it has a design emphasis. We were split into two groups of three and we designed cars. Lizzie was the lead designer for the girls' team. She named her car the Glitter Jet. It was pink and sparkly.

Maury designed the boys' car with giant wheels and the most energy efficient engine avaliable. We dubbed it the Solar Powered Baby Buggy.

The specs for both cars were loaded into the simulation car and we ran through the track (which was pretty much the same as before, but with a redesigned view). At each different section of the track, we got to see whose car did better based on the qualities being tested: efficiency, responsiveness, capability, and power. The girls won three out of four (all but efficiency)!

After that, we tried out Mission: Space, which was another ride the four of us had never tried. This was a fun space simulator where four of us each had two jobs to do during the mission (ie., we each had to push a lighted button a couple of times during the ride). I was the Pilot, Maury was the Navigator, Lizzie was the Commander, and Steve was the Engineer. As Engineer, one of his jobs was to put us into hypersleep during our mission to Mars. So, in other words, he was in charge of bedtime.

After the ride, we killed some time at Club Cool, where you can sample various soft drinks from around the world and in a gift shop, and then it was time for Soarin'. The wait time was up to 2+ hours by the time our FastPass time rolled around at 1 p.m. and all FastPasses for the whole day were distributed already. Have to get to Epcot early! Soarin' was wonderful, as always.

The kids then came back to the hotel with Barb and Herb and Steve and I had lunch in Germany (brats, sauerkraut, German potato salad, and a soft pretzel), dessert in Norway (strawberry rice cream) and I got a Guiness in Great Britain. The bartender put a little flair on the head of my beer.

I then thought it might be neat to see the circle vision movie in Canada. I owe Steve half an hour back for that one. Why can't we have seats in a circle vision theater? Steve would really like an answer for that one.
