I couldn't make this stuff up
Maury is a good reader, but I would have to say that, in general, he does not LIKE to read. When he was in elementary school, he was still likely to come home with picture books for his library book even when he was in 2nd and 3rd grade. Another trick he likes to pull is to check out books in Spanish. We had hoped that this year things would be different because he is at an intermediate school with just 4th and 5th grade. He still came home last week with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. I'm not quite sure why the school library has that book in the first place, much less why they let him check it out.
We sent him back to school with instructions to get something that wasn't a kids book.
He came home with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
On another note, Maury participated in his school's Veteran's Day Program last night. He sang in the chorus and did wonderfully. He didn't have a speaking part, but I tell you what, they don't know what they were missing. Maury could have brought accents and everything to the table had they given him a shot. As usual at these types of events, it is nearly impossible to get good pictures but this one Steve took has quite a nice effect when you crop it close like this:
